Mapleton Iowa Farm USA Framed

This view is a on the back roads in the countryside of Mapleton , Iowa. This was painted in one setting, other than allowing for drying time and varnishing it only took 2 hours to create. I recall the day was a partly cloudy, perfect for a painter, catching shadows and contrast between lights and darks. This landscape painting is a view from within a the chain of the Loess Hills near about 5 miles north of Mapleton, Iowa, I walked about a mile and a half to capture this rural farm scene on camera, then it was painted in the studio.

As you can tell, I love painting skyscapes. Each skyscape has its own character and challenges when painting. In many ways the smaller miniatures are great practice when experimenting with color and composition, they are a great in developing style especially when applying the knowledge towards working on larger landscapes.

It is framed in a very rich 4" gilded frame, which by the way is just as important as the painting when presenting original art, just see the painting with the frame, big difference with a frame!

I have what I call a morgue of photos, hundreds of photos taken clear back as a 12 year old. I found this image in a old 10 year old roll of film I came across last year, I can't discribe exactly were, but I know I could drive there if needed. This scene is in South Dakota across the Big Sioux River from Haywarden, Iowa on an old minimum maintenance road. No pavement here, it started to rain and the road turned to mud. It would have taken more than a half day to walk out an find help if I got stuck. I stopped on an old rackety bridge in celebration of making it throuh the gumbo behind me. After wiping the sweat away I looked up and this was the view. I never thought mud could be so beautiful, but it certainly is when its at your back and your looking at this view.
